Viking Homelands

In the first chapter of this book it talks about how Scandinavia is the great Peninsula and it is also one of the orgins of Viking Settlements.Then Later in this chapter talks about the different Settlements that were created in Scandinavia. In the Second Chapter it talks about the Scandinavian Landscape. The Scandinavian Peninsula consist of Norway and Sweden and still expands more than 1,200 miles from North to South. This Peninsula was created by a Mile-thick Glacier that covered alot of this area during the last Ice-Age. This Section Also talks about how Vikings have made many tools to survive. For Example: They Made fishing Gear to hunt small and big fish but also Mammles found on the coastline. They fished with baited hooks wighed with sinkers (Just like today). While when they fished in rivers they used harpoons and nets to catch Salmon and Trout. Since Southern Norway and Sweeden had flourishing forest Vikings used axes consisting of an Iron Head at the top and wood as the handle and sometimes they used bones. Also since in the winter it snows and its hard to walk in snow to hunt they made ice skates Of Horse and Cattle bone. They also made skis made of wood and to prepel themselves through thet terrain they used iron tipped poles.
